PTZ domes

PTZ dome camera from 4X to 33X optical zoom.

One body that covers a wide view and then zooms to read it, for sites where a fixed camera would need three positions and a longer lens.

The zoom number is not the distance

A 20X dome sees further than a 4X dome, but not twenty times further. What limits the read is pixels on target, and that comes from focal length, sensor and the air between the camera and the object.

The 20X body uses a 4.7 to 103.4 mm lens. At the long end it puts roughly twenty times more pixels on a face than at the wide end, which is the number that matters when you size a car park.

Presets do the work

A dome is only useful if it is told where to look. Set presets for the gate, the barrier and the loading bay, and let the patrol tour fill the rest of the night.

Ask who watches the wall before you buy the zoom. A 33X image of a moving person is harder to follow than a 20X image, and the operator decides whether the extra reach is usable.

Power and mounting

The domes take 12 V DC or POE depending on the body, and the outdoor versions are rated IP67. A PTZ needs clearance to turn, a bracket rated for the weight, and a service position that can be reached without scaffolding.

Where there is no cable at the pole, the 4G and solar variants carry the radio and the battery inside the same housing family, so the mounting drawing does not change.

Pan and tilt speed, preset count and the exact power draw are in the data sheet. Send the mounting height and the distance to the object and the lens is checked against it.
